Zipper is a collection of bags mounted directly under the frame, available in several sizes. The first version was made of TPU Cordura. Shortly after its presentation, an acquainted long-distance cyclist praised us for its design and functionality, but also asked if we had made a lighter one. We took up the challenge and created the lighter – much lighter, ULTRALIGHT version!
This is how two twin editions appeared in the offer. Choosing the better one on the basis of the old folk saying that the more expensive one is always better, is out, because both versions cost the same. So which one is better? The answer is, as you might expect: it depends.
Many of you are familiar with Cordura, which has become synonymous with durability among fabrics used in the travel gear industry, and this reputation did not come from nowhere. Cordura’s durability is indeed impressive, but in this particular case, its use does not fundamentally affect the bag’s durability.
Zippers are mounted to the upper tube of the bicycle frame, and in practice, this part of the bicycle does not suffer any damages during falls, nor is it particularly exposed to obstacles en route. Of course, random accidents may happen and should the bag come into contact with something sharp, Cordura will withstand such an encounter better than Nylon TPU Lite. In both collections the places where Zippers meet the frame are covered with straps, which are both mounting elements and a protection of the bag against abrasion e.g. by frame grommets.
In practice, when choosing a Zipper, you have to answer the question “what is more important to you?” – low weight (depending on the model, you will save from 70 to 100g, which translates into 50-35% difference in the weight of analogous models) or rigidity that will ensure the bag maintains its shape even when it is empty?
